Grève de la faim en Inde : un appel de S.S. le Dalai Lama

Publié le par Michèle

"The letter dated August 7, 2007, which was address to the fourteen hunger strikers and the organizers, reads as follows:
"The present indefinite hunger strike that you have undertakent with such unwavering courage and determination for the Tibetan cause which is entwined with Buddha Dharma is highly commendable.
"Nevertheless, such an action is not only a form of violence but also-if we assess the present situation both inside and outside Tibet calmly and objectively-simply sacrificing the lives of more Tibetan people and is not likely to bring about the positive results we seek.
"Instead of sacrificing precious human lives in this way, it would be of greater benefit and service to our cause by striving to continuously carry out this spirit of unyielding courage and determination form generation to generation.
"The immense hardships you have all endured so far have fulfilled a key objective: it has attracted much publicity and caught the attention of the international community as well as inspired Tibetans living inside and outside of Tibet.
"In light of this, I earnestly appeal to you all to discontinue your hunger strike immediately. I trust that you will give this request of mine serious consideration."
Kalon Tempa handed the letter to Mr. Kalsang Phuntsok Godrukpa, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), and a copy each of the letter was also handed to the hunger strikers.  When asked by media for reaction, Mr Phuntsok's immediate comment was "We are in receipt of a letter from His Holiness the Dalai Lama making an earnest appeal to the 14 Tibetans to discontinue the hunger strike immediately. We are yet to read the letter more carefully so that we could comply with it. We understand that as a leader of the Tibetan people, he is bound to have pressures from governments and influential people around the world."
